Bang Bang Shrimp… delicious, simple and best all… BANGIN with flavor! This dish is so fast and easy. The sauce is sweet and tangy with a hint of spice, perfect! Tender yet crispy shrimp, bathed in this beautiful sauce, you can’t not say “mmm”.

Ingredients

  • Bang Bang Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1/4 cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce
    2 tbsp. Sriracha
    1 tbsp. Honey
    1 tsp. Rice Vinegar

  • Shrimp
  • 1 pound Large Shrimp (can get already peeled and deveined if preferred)
    1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
    1.5 tablespoon Cajun Seasoning
    1.5 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning
    1 tsp. White Pepper
    1 tsp. Onion Powder
    1.5 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning
    1/2 tsp. Salt
    1 cup Buttermilk
    1 Egg

  • Dry Batter
  • 1 cup Cornstarch
Add the same seasonings from the Shrimp (above)

  • Garnish
  • 1/4 cup chopped Green Onions

  • For Frying
  • 2 cups Olive Oil

Directions

  • Peel and devein your shrimp if needed. In a medium bowl, season your shrimp with garlic powder, cajun seasoning, old bay seasoning, white pepper, onion powder and salt. Add your buttermilk and mix. Let it sit in the buttermilk mixture for at least 10-15 minutes to allow the meat to tenderize.
  • In a small bowl, add your mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar and honey to make your Bang Bang Sauce.
  • Make your dry batter in a medium sized bowl by adding the cornstarch and the same seasonings used for the shrimp. Whisk together to mix.
  • Add 1 egg to your shrimp and buttermilk mixture and mix. I like to add the same seasonings again in a smaller quantity, to give it some fresh flavor.
  • Coat your shrimp on both sides in the cornstarch mixture.
  • In a heavy bottom pan, add your frying oil and heat on medium-high. 2-3 inches of oil is ideal.
  • Once the oil is hot, fry your shrimp in batches. Remove when they are lightly golden brown, about 2-3 minutes in total.
  • Set the fried shrimp onto a wire rack or paper towel to allow any oil to drip.
  • Transfer the shrimp into a bowl, coat with your Bang Bang Sauce and enjoy!

Notes

  • Marinating the shrimp in the buttermilk mixture allows the meat to tenderize and absorb the flavor of the seasonings.
  • Adding an egg to your wet batter after marinating will make it stick to the dry better better, and will make the fried result crispier!
